Meet students where they are, understand how they learn, and build from there.
I believe every student can grow when they are given the right combination of high expectations, meaningful relationships, appropriate challenge, and purposeful support.
My approach begins with understanding the learner—not simply identifying what they cannot yet do, but recognizing their strengths, interests, prior knowledge, and individual learning needs. From there, I adapt instruction, scaffold learning, and provide multiple pathways for students to access the curriculum and demonstrate their understanding.
I believe the pathway may need to change, but the learning should remain meaningful. Differentiation and modification are not about lowering expectations; they are about removing barriers so students can engage with learning at an appropriate level of challenge.
I also believe that the process matters as much as the product. I want students to develop confidence, persistence, effective learning strategies, and the ability to reflect on their own progress. Mistakes are part of learning, and a supportive classroom should give students the confidence to take risks, ask questions, and try again.
Ultimately, my goal is to help students become capable, confident, and increasingly independent learners. When students understand how they learn and experience genuine success, they begin to see themselves not as students who cannot, but as learners who can grow.
